Schmid AG energy solutions and Mawera GmbH merge to form Schmid Mawera Group

Eschlikon/Hard - Swiss Schmid AG energy solutions and Austrian Mawera GmbH are to merge, leading to the formation of the Schmid Mawera Group. This will result in the creation of a leading European supplier of energy generation solutions on the basis of biomass in the medium capacity segment.

(CONNECT) As detailed in a company statement, after around 90 years and three generations of ownership, the Schmid family has made the call to hand over Schmid AG energy solutions, which is headquartered in Eschlikon in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, to a trio of businessmen from Vorarlberg in Austria, namely Wolfgang Rohner, Stefan Gritsch and Günther Lehner. As part of this transaction, the company will be merged with Mawera GmbH from Hard in Austria, which is also part of the group of companies. The new business group will in future operate on the market as the Schmid Mawera Group, which will seamlessly continue the existing business of both companies.

The aim of the merger is to further expand the market presence of the newly merged entity and to advance its development into a system integrator for renewable energies, in addition to strengthening the industrial heat pump sector moving forwards. The new Schmid Mawera Group is expected to generate sales of around 180 million Swiss francs and will employ around 680 people.

The current CEO of Schmid AG energy solutions, Philipp Lüscher, has been appointed as CEO of the new business group, with Christian Huber stepping in as the new CFO. Other management positions will be filled by existing executives from both companies.

Operations will continue at the main sites in Eschlikon and Hard, as well as the existing subsidiaries and branches. The production site in Poland will in future be responsible for manufacturing the entire product portfolio of the Schmid Mawera Group and to this end will be further expanded.

The Schmid family will withdraw from the operational side of the company in spring 2026, although it will remain closely connected to business. “We would like to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the entire Schmid team, as well as our customers and business partners, for their great commitment and the time we have spent together, and we wish them all the best for the future”, as Natalie Schmid, Diana Tagliaferro and Roland Schmid jointly comment in the statement. ce/ja
