PostAuto brings automated vehicles to eastern Switzerland with AmiGo
Bern/Beijing - PostAuto is expanding its mobility services in eastern Switzerland with AmiGo. From the first quarter of 2027, customers will have on-demand access to 25 electric, fully automated vehicles, each with space for four passengers. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Chinese technology group Baidu’s Apollo Go robotaxi service.
(CONNECT) PostAuto AG, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, is offering fully automated, on-demand mobility services for the first time from the first quarter of 2027, announced a statement. As part of the AmiGo service, 25 self-driving four-seater vehicles will be available to customers in the eastern Swiss cantons. The aim is to supplement mobility services in less developed regions while gradually developing automated mobility.
If users are travelling on a similar route at the same time, the vehicles, bookable via an app, can be pooled, explains PostAuto. Known as ride pooling, this reportedly improves electric vehicle utilization, making mobility more efficient, sustainable, and customer-friendly.
According to the statement, the project partners include the Swiss cantons of St.Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, and Thurgau, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT), the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), and Touring Club Switzerland (TCS). The technology partner is Apollo Go, a robot taxi service from the Chinese technology group Baidu.
“I’d particularly like to thank our strong partners – without their committed support, this innovative, on-demand service wouldn’t be possible. Together, we’re shaping the future of public transport,” Stefan Regli, Head of Mobility Services and member of Executive Management of Swiss Post, is quoted as saying.
Initial mapping trips with safety drivers in the region will begin in December 2025, with initial test drives with user groups to be conducted from the first half of 2026 onwards, again with safety drivers. Regular service will start in the first quarter of 2027. ce/ja
