Nüssli wins contract to extend the Mack Pyramid
Hüttwilen/Monheim - Nüssli from Switzerland has won a contract to expand the Mack Pyramid in the German city of Monheim. The extension will be built in honor of the 95th birthday of the artist Heinrich Mack.
(CONNECT) According to an announcement, the city of Monheim am Rhein has awarded Nüssli Schweiz AG from Hüttwilen the contract to create an extension to the Mack Pyramid. The original building was designed by the artist Heinrich Mack and the architect Horst Schmidges in 1990.
Nüssli has received the construction order from Art Hub Immobiliengesellschaft, a real estate subsidiary of the city of Monheim, as a general contractor. The event construction company based in the Swiss canton of Thurgau will implement the architectural design “H Eins” by students Ruth Martin and Malte Grobenstieg, whose draft won a competition held by Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft.
The new construction will place an additional inverted pyramid on the existing Mack building. Generous exhibitions rooms will provide space for contemporary art in the two newly created floors as well as the old, renovated pyramid. Storage and exhibition spaces will also be created.
The topping out ceremony for the construction is to take place on March 8, 2026, the 95th birthday of Heinrich Mack. The first exhibitions will then follow in fall 2026 with full operation beginning in June 2027.
Andy Böckli, Group CEO of Nüssli, commented in the press release: “We are proud that the city of Monheim is trusting in our extensive expertise again and are very much looking forward to successfully implementing this particular project with our partners.” The company has already built an eight-segment sports hall in Monheim from 2023 to 2025. Currently the largest sports hall in Europe, it was inaugurated on March 31, 2025. ce/ww
