St.Gallen/Zurich - A creative hub for students in to be built in St.Gallen in the shape of the HSG ETH Student Project House. The project is being realized as a joint venture between the University of St.Gallen, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and the START Foundation. The aim is for the hub to support students in implementing their own projects and ideas.
(CONNECT) The University of St.Gallen (HSG), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the START Foundation in St.Gallen are joining forces to establish the HSG ETH Student Project House. As detailed in a statement issued by HSG, this creative hub is intended to serve as a “sister project” to the established ETH Student Project House in Zurich. With this new project, students will have a space at their disposal where they can develop and present their own projects and ideas.
The new creative hub at the START Campus is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2026. Students from both HSG and ETH Zurich are invited to take part. The hub’s activities will focus on talent development, innovation, strengthening sustainability awareness and building up the students’ iterative skills through practical projects, according to the statement. The first interdisciplinary projects are expected to be launched by the end of the year.
“The HSG ETH Student Project House fits perfectly with the strategy we are pursuing at the University of St.Gallen”, states Prof. Dietmar Grichnik, vice-president of Innovation and Quality, who is responsible for the project on behalf of HSG. “It specifically strengthens talent development and the pursuit of excellence in education. At the same time, it is an important step towards further developing St.Gallen as a start-up hub and anchoring HSG even more firmly in the innovation ecosystem through collaboration with technical universities”, he adds.
For the first three years, the canton of St.Gallen and the Federal Council, the Swiss federal government, will be providing financial support to the tune of 1.2 million Swiss francs. The START Foundation offers a fully functional and appropriate infrastructure at its own campus, the statement explains. ce/ww
