HSG generates 313 million francs value added for the canton of St.Gallen

St.Gallen - The University of St.Gallen (HSG) generated 313 million Swiss francs in added value for the canton in 2023 and is a social and innovative catalyst for the region. These are findings from the study “Regional Impact of the HSG”.

(CONNECT) The “Regional Impact of the HSG” study assesses the diverse effects that HSG has on the city and canton of St.Gallen. The university increased its value added contribution to around 313 million francs in 2023, compared to 308 million francs in 2022. An additional 202 million francs flowed into the canton through consumption, services and events alone. Regional businesses, restaurants and the hotel industry were all direct beneficiaries, as the university reported in a press release.

Regional trade also benefits from around 5,500 highly qualified members of HSG Alumni that live in the canton of St.Gallen. In 2023, approximately 1,000 participants from the canton attended the university’s continuing education courses, generating a turnover of 55.8 million francs. “The recruitment of university graduates from the HSG ensures that the Raiffeisen Group will be able to fill important key positions in the long term. We grow through their innovation and this shapes the future of the company,” explained Tamara Krizanovic, Head of Trainees at Raiffeisen Switzerland.

HSG also provides economic and innovative added value through its startup programs HSG START Accelerator and HSG Entrepreneurship. Specifically, 151 spin-offs with the HSG label are active, one in five of them in the Canton of St.Gallen. Major international events such as the St.Gallen Symposium (in Town) promote regional exchange, participation and education and, as the press release highlights, show that the university is an international beacon for the canton: “The HSG shapes the perception of St.Gallen as an innovative and open-minded location around the world,” said Samuel Zuberbühler from the St.Gallen Location Promotion. ce/ja
