Switzerland Innovation Park Ost offering workspaces for commuters

St.Gallen - Switzerland Innovation Park Ost and St.Gallen railway station have come up with a way for commuters to productively bridge waiting times. By installing specially equipped workspaces at the station, the joint initiative meets the need for flexible working.

As part of a pilot project, the Swiss national railway company SBB and Switzerland Innovation Park Ost have set up workspaces at St.Gallen railway station specifically designed for commuters, further details of which can be found in a press release. Agosti Meier AG from Waldkirch in the canton of St.Gallen has built eight desks, all of which feature an electricity supply and a wireless internet connection. Since August 14, the workspaces offer commuters a creative solution to bridge waiting times at the station.

Michael Disch from the Real Estate Management department at SBB explains in the press release how the workspaces also enable SBB to meet “a major customer need” to be able to work at the train station. “With this initiative, we are making the St.Gallen railway station a productive workplace”, he states. In addition to the existing co-working spaces located at the Switzerland Innovation Park Ost campus in the west of the city, the desks set up in the main hall of St.Gallen railway station now also offer passengers the opportunity to exchange ideas and network.

The project is initially scheduled to run for three months and aims to provide inspiration for similar initiatives in future. “After all, new ideas in the working world are like travelling – if you don’t take the first step, you’ll never make any progress”, comments Peter Frischknecht, Campus Director at Switzerland Innovation Park Ost, in the press release. ce/ww
