Start-up MOOST wins the ABB Electrification Challenge

Zurich/Rapperswil-Jona - MOOST has been declared the winner of the Smart Buildings Challenge, which is part of the ABB Electrification Startup Challenge 2022. More than 100 applications from 34 countries were submitted for the three awards across different categories. MOOST will now seek to bring its solution to market with the support of ABB.

MOOST has won the Smart Buildings Challenge by ABB. The start-up based in Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St.Gallen was honored by the Zurich-based technology enterprise for its achievements as part of the ABB Electrification Startup Challenge 2022.

According to information from the company itself, MOOST has transformed the Smart Home – which does not always live up to its name – into a Learning Home. In so doing, the start-ups managed to create “a great concept and plan including an appealing proof of concept” that addresses the challenge in “a clear and concise way”, explains Aldo Sciaccia, Global Head of Product Management and R&D, ABB Electrification, Smart Buildings, in the Jury Motivation explaining the decision it reached. “With the proposed solution we are able to connect different data sources, adding context and provide actionable insights back to the user”, Sciaccia adds. Moreover, it creates a bridge to cutting-edge technology and helps even untrained users “to make billions of better decisions”, he concludes.

According to a press release issued by ABB, more than 100 teams from 34 countries competed for the prizes on offer. The winner of the Smart Power category was the Italian start-up i-EM, while the North American start-up Pratexo emerged victorious in the Distribution Solutions category.

The winners will each have the opportunity to collaborate with ABB on a project valued at 30,000 US dollars. The aim is to launch a joint solution for customers on the ABB Ability Marketplace later this year, reaching an audience in more than 100 countries worldwide. They will also receive mentoring support from ABB’s start-up accelerator SynerLeap and from Microsoft’s start-up advisors. After all, in the words of Anton Kotov, Chief Digital and Strategy Officer at ABB Electrification, it is only by “collaborating with some of the brightest mavericks in the world that we will develop solutions to solve the world’s energy and climate challenges”.
