Stadler expanding site area in Altenrhein

Bussnang TG/Altenrhein SG – Stadler Rail, a manufacturer of railway rolling stock, is expanding the production area it rents in Altenrhein. The company will have 320 employees working at the site to deal with high order intake levels.

Stadler Rail’s new production facility went into operation in St.Margrethen SG in April of this year. In the planning, the intention was to keep “a few dozen employees” working on coach body manufacturing at the existing site in Altenrhein. However, Stadler now reveals in a press release that it has decided to significantly expand its operations in Altenrhein on account of the high volume of incoming orders. The leases for space currently being used at the site have therefore been extended by ten years. In future, the company from the St.GallenBodenseeArea reports that around 320 staff will be making the coach bodies for double-decker multiple-unit trains on an area of 32,000m2 at Altenrhein.

Since April 2020, 1,400 Stadler Rail employees have been working in St.Margrethen, building double-decker trains for use in Switzerland and abroad. Of these, 450 are engaged in the area of development. Stadler decided in 2017 that it would be investing in its operations in Switzerland and thereby on this production site which is tailored to the company’s needs.
