Stadler to deliver four electric trains to Slovakia

Bussnang TG/Bratislava - Stadler has won an international tender to deliver four double-decker electric trains to Slovakia. A corresponding contract has now been signed between the rail vehicle construction company and the Slovak state-owned train company ZSSK.

Stadler is set to deliver double-decker electric KISS trains to Slovakia by the end of 2023. The rail vehicle construction company based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea and Slovak state-owned train company ZSSK have now signed a contract to this end, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by Stadler. Previously, Stadler had emerged victorious as part of an international tender. The trains comprising six cars each are to be used on regional routes in western and central Slovakia.

The KISS trains can travel at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour and offer space for 600 seats in first and second class. The trains also feature step-free boarding in addition to four toilets, of which one is intended for people with restricted mobility. In addition to space for wheelchair users, the trains also offer storage for bicycles, strollers and luggage.

Moreover, the trains are equipped with Wi-Fi and a modern passenger information system. Cameras both inside and outside as well as on the roof of the train to monitor the pantograph are designed to offer safety.

This is the first time that the rail vehicle construction company will be supplying double-decker electric trains to Slovakia. Up to now, a total of 21 single-decker articulated railcars manufactured by Stadler, 15 of which are narrow-gauge trains with electric drive as well as six standard-gauge trains with diesel-electric drive, have been in use in Slovakia. Moreover, according to the press release, ZSSK ordered five trains and one locomotive in 2018 for use on the mountain railways in the High Tatras.

“We are particularly proud that we can continue our common history with ZSSK thanks to this order. We would like to thank ZSSK for their trust and look forward to continuing our successful partnership”, comments Dr. Ansgar Brockmeyer, Executive Vice President Marketing & Sales and Deputy CEO of Stadler, in the press release.
