Migros modernizing operations center in Gossau

Gossau - The Migros cooperative for Eastern Switzerland, Migros Ostschweiz, has commenced work to modernize its operations center serving the region. The sustainable refurbishment of the building, which dates back to 1979, is intended to ensure that it can keep pace with business developments over the next four decades. The modernization project is set to be completed in 2030.

(CONNECTMigros Ostschweiz has begun work on the renovation and modernization of its operations center located in Gossau in the Swiss canton of St.Gallen. As detailed in a statement, the management team of Migros Ostschweiz intends to make the building fit “for operations and expansion over the next 40 years” by realizing this modernization project, according to comments from Sandro Feltscher, Head of Logistics and Information Technology at Migros Ostschweiz.

The work will chiefly focus on Building C of the operations center, which has served the production and distribution of meat and charcuterie products, as well as order picking and shipping of chilled food products, since 1979. In the first phase of the renovation work, an extension with additional docking points for delivery vehicles will be built on the south side. Next year, parking spaces for truck trailers and employee parking are to be modernized. The construction plans for 2028 and 2029 include the building of new, modern office space for employees, while the refrigerated order picking lines will be replaced with modern systems at the same time. It is expected that the modernization project including all construction work will be completed in 2030.

“The biggest challenge in this construction project concerns maintaining business operations while replacing the equipment and modernizing production processes. Our supermarkets and restaurants still require daily deliveries of dairy products, meat and other chilled goods even while these are in the process of being replaced”, as Sandro Feltscher explains further. ce/ww
