Lidl Switzerland invests in Weinfelden

Weinfelden TG - Lidl Switzerland is building a new warehouse in Weinfelden. This will primarily serve to handle shipments of fruit and vegetables. A ripening chamber for bananas will form the core of the new warehouse.

Lidl Switzerland is building a new warehouse adjacent to its existing distribution center located in Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau, as detailed in a press release. The construction plans envisage a two-story building with around 10,000 pallet bays situated across a total floor area of just under 23,000 square meters. According to information in the press release, the new building is also to be constructed in accordance with the Minergie standard, with only natural coolants to be used when the building is approved for operations. Lidl Switzerland is aiming to open the new warehouse by the end of 2021.

The new warehouse has been designed to primarily store fruit and vegetables. The central element of the project is a chamber specifically conceived to ripen bananas, where green bananas can be brought to maturity before being transported to Lidl stores across Switzerland.

In recent years, Lidl Switzerland has opened up to ten stores in Switzerland per year. Due to this growth, the company is in need of new storage spaces. For this reason, Lidl Switzerland is currently on the lookout for additional suitable sites.
