Leica Geosystems simplifies cable detection

Heerbrugg - Leica Geosystems in the canton of St. Gallen has introduced new locator technology for underground utilities. With automatic controls for the simplified detection of cables and pipes before excavation, site safety can be improved for construction, civil engineering and utility workers.

Leica Geosystems from the St.GallenBodenseeArea has presented its latest solution for professionals in the construction, civil engineering and utility industries. It helps workers locate the position of underground cables and pipes before excavation. This is paramount for site workers’ safety, as was explained in a company press release.

The new solution from Leica Geosystems includes the Leica DD175 smart utility locator and the Leica DA175 signal transmitter. They complement the existing Leica DD100 series and connect to Leica’s special software, which enables users to connect the site to the office in real time with fast and stable data transfer. The tool’s data-logging and GPS features allow managers to see how and where the locator is used.

“The new Leica DD175’s advanced automatic controls decrease the likelihood of human error even for less skilled professionals,” said Federico Bertolucci, GPR Product Manager at Hexagon, Leica’s parent company. This will consequently enable “easier and more efficient cable and pipe locating for improved workplace safety”. mm
