HSG arranging international summer school focused on climate justice

St.Gallen - The University of St.Gallen (HSG) has issued invitations to its Thrive Impact Summer School. Over the course of a week, a total of 40 students from HSG and universities around the world will come together to exchange views on the subject of climate justice.

Around 40 students from international educational organizations are set to take part in the Thrive Impact Summer School on the subject of climate justice, which is taking place August 18-25. The event is the brainchild of the Competence Center for Social Innovation at the University of St.Gallen (HSG). Climate justice is one of the core challenges facing students now and in the future, as the organizers write in a press release covering the event.

“We have crossed six out of nine planetary boundaries”, comments Julia Bahlmann, a PhD student at HSG and project leader of the summer school, in the press release. “The so-called MAPAs (Most Affected People and Areas) in particular suffer from the associated impacts of climate change. The MAPAs represents groups and territories that are disproportionately affected by climate change such as women, ethnic minorities and poor people”, she adds.

Around 20 students from the University of St.Gallen and ten from Columbia University in New York, in addition to those from a handful of other universities, will take part in the seminar. When it came to selecting the participants, the event organizers sought to ensure the greatest possible diversity in terms of “backgrounds, life experiences, ethnic origin and nationality”, the press release explains. The participants will have the opportunity to exchange views with experts from the Winterthur-based Club of Rome, the NGO Viva con Agua and HSG, among other organizations. ce/ww
