Griesser converts almost entirely to sustainable aluminum in Austria

Aadorf/Nenzing - Griesser Holding AG from the canton of Thurgau has been using 95 percent sustainable aluminum in the production of its window shutter range at its Austrian plant in Nenzing since September. As a result, the company is saving up to 30 percent CO2 per kilogram of aluminum and moving closer towards net zero.

(CONNECT) The solar shading manufacturer Griesser Holding AG used 95 percent sustainable green aluminum in the production of its window shutter range in Nenzing this September, as the company reported in a press release. By using green aluminum at the Austrian plant, Griesser Holding AG will save up to 30 percent CO2 per kilogram of aluminum and now achieves a record low 3.3 kilogram of CO2 emissions per kilogram of aluminum. The company explains that sustainable aluminum is derived 65 percent from pre-consumer and post-consumer scrap plus 35 percent from primary aluminum. The primary aluminum is produced in Europe using renewable energy, with concomitant CO2 emissions up to five times lower than would be generated through conventional processes.

The conversion to green aluminum in Nenzing started in November 2024. “Our window shutter range uses the largest quantities of aluminum. The material changeover in Nenzing therefore enabled us to achieve a significant impact quickly,” said Urs Neuhauser, CEO of the Griesser Group.

According to the company, quality and sustainability are compatible without compromise at Griesser Holding AG, with previous warranty periods applying to all Green Aluminium products. As with the rest of the Griesser range, the greener model variants are also EPD-certified (Environmental Product Declaration).
