OST expanding to Tänikon
Tänikon - An outpost of OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences is being established in Tänikon in the canton of Thurgau. Research projects aimed at generating innovations in the fields of nutrition and agriculture are to be implemented at the planned Living Lab. The canton of Thurgau will initially make a sum of around 1 million Swiss francs available for this venture.
OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences and the canton of Thurgau have reached an agreement to set up the OST Living Lab in Tänikon. The canton of Thurgau explains in a press release that the new lab facility will aim to implement research projects under real world conditions in the agricultural and food sectors, with the researchers adopting a primary focus on applied research in technical fields.
The cantonal government of the canton of Thurgau is making a sum of 1.02 million Swiss francs available to the university in order to establish its new outpost. “The new OST institute strengthens Tänikon in its role as an interdisciplinary research location, making it an even more attractive proposition both within Switzerland and at international level”, as Monika Knill, member of the cantonal government of Thurgau responsible for the Department of Education and Culture, explains in the press release. Among other aspects, the funding will be used to finance the infrastructure for the Living Lab. At the same time, OST is inviting applications for a new professorship based at the institute in Tänikon, which is affiliated with the university’s Department of Technology.
“We are excited about establishing a shining beacon in the field of agricultural technology in partnership with the canton of Thurgau”, comments Daniel Seelhofer, OST President, in the press release. The construction of the Living Lab and the process of setting up the professorship and research group is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, with normal operations then set to commence at the institute. In the medium term, new educational and training opportunities are planned for the Living Lab, which has been conceived as a bridge between practice and applied research. ce/hs
