Bühler opens new Grain Innovation Center in Uzwil

Uzwil - Bühler officially commenced operations at its new Grain Innovation Center on 28 October. With this, the company is aiming to promote collaboration and innovation within the food and animal nutrition industries. Moreover, customers and partners will have access to Bühler’s comprehensive ecosystem of Application & Training Centers in Uzwil.

The Bühler network of Application & Training Centers in Uzwil in the canton of St.Gallen has been bolstered by the addition of the new Grain Innovation Center (GIC). The technology company’s five-story building spans an area of 2,000 square meters and is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure and 70 pieces of machinery from Bühler and its partners for the processing of grains and pulses.

The GIC serves as an innovation forge for Bühler customers operating in the milling industry, allowing them to experiment and innovate. “The GIC offers an unparalleled environment where customers can develop tailored processes and witness the extensive capabilities of Bühler’s diverse portfolio firsthand”, as Stefan Birrer, Head of Business Area Milling Solutions, explains in a press release.

The food trials made possible at the new facility cover not only grains and pulses but as well herbs, spices, coffee, nuts and insects. These trials can be carried out with production capacities of up to 5 tons per hour. “One of the main advantages of the GIC is its ability to provide not only detailed data that enable continuous and precise monitoring of the process but also the physical and chemical properties of the product at every stage of production and under different process conditions”, comments Lothar Driller, Department Manager Feed Application Center and Trainings.

The GIC is part of Bühler’s Application & Training Centers (ATC) hub, which also includes the four recently opened ATCs – the Flavor Creation Center, the Food Creation Center, the Protein Application Center and the Energy Recovery Center – in addition to additional centers that have been in operation for several years already, such as the Extrusion Application Center and the Pasta Application Center. ce/mm
