Baumer sensors set standard

Frauenfeld – Sensor manufacturer Baumer has developed sensors with efficient background suppression in its O200 range. They are great for use in confined machine installation spaces.

O200 sensors are diffuse sensors with background suppression that measure the light intensity reflected by the target, as Baumer reported in a press release. Owing to their increased functional reserves, the sensors are currently “the only ones with up to 120mm sensing distance”, writes the manufacturer from the St.GallenBodenseeArea. The background suppression means they are suitable for use on circuit boards from below. The short sensing distances mean the sensors can be applied in confined machine installation spaces.

The background suppression also works “on darkest and shiny objects such as mobile phone housings”. According to Baumer, the sensors not only determine “the light intensity reflected by the target”, but also the distance of the object from the sensor, which means “objects located within the adjustable sensing distance can be detected regardless of their color and surface”.

The sensors have a short response time of 0.25ms, so they “ensure extremely fast and precise position detection”. Ambient light sources “such as LEDs, camera flashes or the light of other sensors” do not hamper the readings of the O200 diffuse sensors.
