Model Group to invest 35 million CHF in Weinfelden, SGBA
Swiss packaging solutions specialist Model Group has announced a 35 million Swiss francs investment in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, where it will build a new materials recycling plant at its Weinfelden location.
At the new plant, Model will for the first time recycle beverage cartons and paper with low solubility, among other materials. The launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2017, followed by a three months period for fine-adjustments of the plant. Once the facility is fully operational, it will be able to process up to 75’000 tons of beverage cartons and low solubility papers.
The investment by the Model Group makes sense ecologically and economically. As the quality of wastepaper currently available is decreasing, and because technology and quality requirements in the packaging sector continue to multiply, new raw materials with the potential to improve the quality of corrugated cardboard are in high demand. The new plant in Weinfelden will address this: Its innovative recycling process yields alternative raw materials, from which it manufactures high-grade corrugated cardboard papers. These are used to produce individual packaging solutions and displays. Moreover, Model has decided to improve its technology at the plant in order to process and recycle materials that previously have been restricted to thermal utilization such as waste incineration. Recycling these materials helps conserving resources and reduces CO2 emissions.
The Model Group develops, produces and delivers innovative, high-value packaging solutions using cardboard and corrugated board, ranging from simple transport packaging to chocolate and perfume boxes with sophisticated finishes.
