Internet of Things fills store shelves

Weinfelden TG/Wil SG – Stedy Gwürz AG is using a solution based on the Internet of Things developed by the company oneresource to aid its product logistics processes. It helps to ensure that the shelves specifically defined for use with the solution are always full.

Stedy Gwürz AG makes spice mixes and sells these across 4,200 points of sale in Switzerland as well as via the internet. The company from Weinfelden uses in warehouses what is known as the shop-in-shop concept, whereby the warehouses make available to the manufacturers a clearly defined area for a retail shelf. The manufacturers are then responsible for ensuring that their shelf is always well-stocked.

Stedy is now using a solution based on the Internet of Things (IoT) developed by the Wil-based IT firm oneresource, as outlined in an article published in the magazine KMU21. This should help Stedy to automate the management its store shelves. Known as SAP ERP HANA, the cloud solution links the store shelf with the company’s systems. Outgoing and incoming goods are therefore automatically registered, with stock levels for individual products visible in real time for Stedy. Delivery times and routes can in this way be adjusted. In addition to information with regard to product stock levels, the shop shelves can also provide data on ambient humidity and temperature, which should serve to aid quality control processes.

Valentin Stettler, CEO of Stedy Gwürz AG: “As a small company, the use of modern technologies is crucial to our efforts to keep pace with larger firms”. A prototype of the oneresource solution has previously been tested, delivering promising results in the process. Stedy is therefore now intending to permanently integrate the new digitized business model.
