HSR Rapperswil out in front in educational rankings

Rapperswil-Jona SG - The comparison platform eduwo has published the results of this year’s educational rankings. The University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil has emerged as the best university of applied sciences, with its Bachelor degree program in Computer Science also coming out on top in a separate category.

Just under 6,000 students took part in this year’s educational rankings to decide the best universities, as revealed in a press release issued by eduwo. The University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil (HSR) was voted as the best university of applied sciences ahead of the University of Applied Sciences Buchs (NTB). The factors of lecturer/teacher, facilities, organization, educational framework/setting and course content, in addition to the recommendation rate, were used for the assessment.

In addition, votes were taken to decide the best individual degree programs for the first time. In terms of Bachelor programs, HSR’s Computer Science degree was voted as the winner. “We are delighted to receive this excellent assessment. It confirms that we are on the right path in terms of our clearly defined focus on practical orientation, high quality teaching and a welcoming atmosphere”, comments Margit Mönnecke, Rector of HSR, in the press release. She adds: “And the economy agrees too: More than 90 percent of our Computer Science students sign a work contract before receiving their degree certificate”. The NTB finished in second place in this category for its Systems Engineering degree program.

The University of Liechtenstein was voted as the best university ahead of the University of St.Gallen (HSG). Moreover, it emerged victorious in the Master category with its Master degree in Entrepreneurship and Management as well. SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern, a hotel management school, was voted as the best institution of higher vocational training. SHL also came out on top in the HF study program category for its Dipl. Hôtelière-Restauratrice/Hôtelier-Restaurateur HF. The Unterstrass Institute at the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PHZH) was voted as the best teacher training college.

In terms of the most popular fields of study, art, music and design attained the best average score of 4.28, while technology enjoyed the highest recommendation rate of 96.4 percent.

The platform eduwo makes experience reports available to future students based on responses from both current students and alumni. “With authentic experience reports from current and former students, eduwo is making the search easier for prospective students, while at the same time minimizing the number of drop outs”, comments Raphel Tobler, Co-Founder of the Winterthur-based start-up.
