HSG to become centre for artificial intelligence

St.Gallen – The University of St.Gallen (HSG) is becoming the first university in Switzerland to receive the NVIDIA DGX-2 supercomputer. This is one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world for use in modern artificial intelligence processes.

A press release revealed that the 200kg hardware will be received by the HSG on 5 November, making it the first university in Switzerland to have the NVIDIA DGX-2 supercomputer. NVIDIA boasts that DGX-2 is the most powerful artificial intelligence system in the world. The system packs the power of 16 of the world’s most advanced graphics processing units. Its architecture accelerates new AI model types that were previously untrainable.

Research activities that will be enhanced through the use of this new supercomputer include the analysis of deep neural networks, which are inspired by the human brain and can be applied in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The objective is to make neural networks more robust against data anomalies, the HSG reports. This is particularly relevant in the context of application in autonomous systems and interactions with humans.
