Stadler unveils first bimodel FLIRT

Bussnang TG – The rail vehicle manufacturer Stadler has unveiled its first bimodel FLIRT. Thanks to its innovative drive, the train can travel on both electrified and non-electrified lines.

Stadler spent two years developing the new FLIRT, explained the company in a statement published to celebrate the train’s roll-out. The biomodel FLIRT is headed for the Valle d’Aosta region. Pierluigi Marquis, president of the regional council, and Peter Jenelten, Stadler vice president, marked the train’s debut in an official ceremony.

The innovative FLIRT’s environmentally friendly drive allows it to travel on three kilovolt electrified lines, while thanks to its diesel-electric drive, it is also suited to non-electrified lines, explained the rail vehicle manufacturer from the St.GallenBodenseeArea. Stadler also highlighted the vehicle’s aluminium profile, which makes it light and energy-efficient.

Operators servicing both main and secondary lines can take advantage of the new bimodel FLIRT. Five of the vehicles will be put into operation in Valle d’Aosta on the Aosta to Turin line in May 2018.
