Geobrugg protects Hindu pilgrimage site
Romanshorn TG – The protection systems manufacturer Geobrugg has made the Vaishno Devi Hindu temple safe against falling rocks. In the past, pilgrims were exposed to a great danger along the serpentine path towards the temple in India.
The Vaishno Devi temple in the Himalaya Mountains in India is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites. To reach it, pilgrims walk along a kilometres-long serpentine path next to up to 70-metre-high steep slopes.
The most exposed of these slopes have now been fitted with a series of Geobrugg systems against rockfalls, providing a safe route for the pilgrims, according to the company from the St.GallenBodenseeArea.
A total of 8,000 square metres of nets and meshes were installed and are now actively stabilizing the embankments to protect buildings and tourist infrastructure. Fifteen systems against rockfall from 3,000 to 8,000 kJ also protect the footpath to the sacred site.
