Geobrugg protects Canadian region

Romanshorn TG – The tallest and widest clear span debris flow barrier against mudslides in North America has been installed in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Geobrugg, a manufacturer of protection systems, developed the concept and supplied the materials.

The clear span debris flow barrier was installed on Britannia Creek in British Colombia, according to a statement from Geobrugg. The protection systems manufacturer from the St.GallenBodenseeArea had been tasked with developing a concept to mitigate the effects of potential debris flows, namely mud and rocks, in the region. Geobrugg’s solution – a network barrier stretched across the riverbed – was welcomed by all parties involved.

The barrier is now the tallest and widest of its kind in North America, ranging in height from 8.5 metres to 11 metres and in width from 20 metres to 30 metres. With a retention capacity of 8,000 cubic metres, the barrier protects existing or future roads, buildings, tourist infrastructure and residential areas located downstream.
