University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland to get six departments

St.Gallen – The University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland has been granted a departmental organizational structure. The cantons funding the university have decided to set up six departments.

The new University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland is funded by the cantons of St.Gallen, Thurgau, Glarus, Schwyz, Appenzell-Innerrhoden and Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein. Their representatives have now met for the first time at a “designated governing conference”, where they made preliminary decisions on the university’s establishment phase.

The university will have six departments: technology (with degree programmes in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, energy and environmental technology and industrial engineering); information technology and electrical engineering; architecture, construction and planning (architecture, landscape architecture, civil engineering and spatial planning); economics (including business informatics); social work; and health (nursing).

The services offered by the existing universities of applied sciences in St.Gallen, Buchs and Rapperswil will remain in place even after the University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland is founded. However, the departmental organizational structure is intended to strengthen the overall school. There are no plans to relocate entire organizational units, but services can be offered at all locations.
