Fully Committed to the SGBA: Swiss Dental Technology Company COLTENE starts CHF 11 Million Expansion Project at SGBA Headquarters

An Tuesday in early October was groundbreaking day for a prestigious new building: COLTENE  is investing 11 million Swiss Francs in the modernization and expansion of its headquarters in Eastern Switzerland’s Altstätten, in the canton St.Gallen. A total of 5095 m2 of floor area will host a two-floor production hall and state-of-the-art offices distributed over three floors.

The international dental technology company specializing in the development, manufacturing and sale of consumables and small-size equipment and dental treatment applications in restoration, endodontics and prosthetics, anticipates a manifold return on this investment. Besides rental costs for external sites becoming obsolete, COLTENE’s new production facility will yield improvements in operations and processes, an increase in production capacities in the growing product area of restoration, and generally lower operational costs and energy consumption.

It is not entirely self-evident that an international company based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea (SGBA) is that strongly committed to the region’s manufacturing sector. After all, at its production sites in the US, Germany and Brazil, and in its international sales divisions, COLTENE employs an international workforce of roughly 900 worldwide, compared to approx. 160 in Switzerland.

But according to Martin Schaufelberger, CEO of COLTENE Group, thanks to a first-class infrastructure and its dual education system, Switzerland remains a highly attractive and competitive manufacturing location. In order to benefit from these “extraordinary location advantages” to the highest degree, COLTENE is investing on its professionals and top-of-the-line means of production in the SGBA.

Move-in date for the prestigious project is planned for Q4 of 2018.
