St.Gallen – The 49th St.Gallen Symposium will be taking place in May. This year’s event aims to develop approaches for combating short-term profit-centric thinking. Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis will be among the speakers.

The 49th edition of the student initiative St.Gallen Symposium will be taking place at the University of St.Gallen (HSG) from 8 to 10 May, it was reported in a press release. “Capital for Purpose” is the topic this year, because “a new light must be shone on the use of capital and resources, and these examined with regard to the future”.

A number of national and international speakers have been invited to the Symposium. They include Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis from Switzerland, but also Professor Niall Ferguson from the University of Stanford and Professor Colin Mayer from the University of Oxford. Heng Swee Keat, Minister of Finance of Singapore, will take part in a podium discussion focusing on social responsibility for a sustainable economic and political order. The talk from Thomas Jordan, President of the Swiss National Bank, will be open to the public in the Audimax at the HSG. He is speaking about the challenges faced in monetary policy. The speaker list that has been defined so far can be viewed online.

The press release highlights that the St.Gallen Symposium is the “leading initiative worldwide for intergenerational debates about economic, political and social developments”.
