Aebi Schmidt keeps runways clear

Frauenfeld TG – The machine manufacturer Aebi Schmidt has completely overhauled its portfolio of airport sprayers. The spraying arms can now be extended within 30 seconds, which means they can be used against ice at short notice.

Aebi Schmidt (ASH) introduced a new overall concept for airport vehicles last year. It has already launched the sweepers, and now the look and feel of the Schmidt ASP sprayers is in line with the overall concept, product manager Jan Warmelink explained in an interview.

“The machine also has some innovations to offer ‘on the inside’,” he added. The de-icing material is now distributed even more precisely on the runway, and the driver can keep track of the status and current spraying arm positions at all times thanks to a colour touch display.

“It takes less than 30 seconds to unfold the spraying arms, and this is also possible while driving,” developer Christian Heuvel said about another innovation. In a video, the company from the St.GallenBodenseeArea shows how it is possible to unfold the arms while driving. The spraying arms can withstand speeds of up to 45 kilometres per hour.

The company has more than 30 years of experience in the field of sprayers. But Warmelink is already looking toward the future: “Future trends are also driving communication between machines for automated clearing of runways. Environmental awareness requires the careful use of resources, such as precise dosing of de-icing materials and minimizing their use.”
