Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences opens its doors

Rapperswil-Jona SG – The Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) will commence operations on September 1. It is a merger of FHS St.Gallen, HSR Rapperswil and NTB Buchs.

The three former universities of applied sciences of Eastern Switzerland – the University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil (HSR), the St.Gallen University of Applied Sciences (FHS) and the University of Applied Sciences Buchs (NTB) – will jointly operate as the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) beginning September 1. A new website has been launched as part of the new joint brand identity.

OST is the university of applied sciences for the six cantons of Eastern Switzerland – St.Gallen, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Appenzell Ausserrohden, Thurgau, Schwyz and Glaris – and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

It has around 3,800 students in six departments: the School of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Landscape, Spatial Planning and the School of Computer Science, both of which are located in Rapperswil; the School of Technology, which is located in Buchs; and the School of Health Professions, the School of Social Work, and the School of Management, all of which are in St.Gallen. Daniel Seelhofer is the president of OST.

The three founding universities of applied sciences had previously cooperated in the merger of the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (FHO), which also included HTW Chur. It now operates independently as the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons.
