OST promoting Artificial Intelligence

Rapperswil SG - OST has founded the Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence. Within the framework of the IT training drive being advanced by the canton of St.Gallen, all OST students will now be taught the basics in the area of Artificial Intelligence.

With its Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI), OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences intends to promote awareness of practical applications in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to a wider audience, as detailed in a press release. “AI should form part of the general education of OST students alongside other subjects such as English and basic knowledge of business economics and legal frameworks”, explains Daniel Seelhofer, OST Rector, in the press release. This approach is based on the assumption that AI is set to have a major influence on almost every area of life in the future. OST students should therefore gain basic knowledge of AI – regardless of their field of study.

By following this approach, OST is implementing the IT training drive being advanced by the canton of St.Gallen in the form of a third sub-project. Since OST also offers a wide range of training and further education as well as services for companies, it is not only the university itself that stands to benefit from the new Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence. In actual fact, the region as a whole should profit from the center, which could also help to counteract the shortage of skilled workers. It is therefore in line with the objectives of the cantonal IT training drive, which also aims to strengthen St.Gallen as a business location.
