Stadler receives new order from Hungary

Bussnang TG – Train manufacturer Stadler Rail will deliver eight electric double-decker KISS trains to the Hungarian railway operator MÁV-Start for use on suburban lines around Budapest.

Stadler Rail and MÁV-Start signed a framework agreement in 2017 for the delivery of up to 40 trains to be delivered over eight years. MÁV-Start then ordered an additional 11 trains that same year. Now, the Hungarian railway operator has ordered eight more electric double-decker KISS trains, according to a Stadler Rail press release.

These will be the first double-decker trains to operate commercially in Hungary. The six-car KISS trains can seat 600 people comfortable, which is twice as many passengers compared to a single-decker unit of the same length. The trains also offer space for four wheelchairs as well as twelve bicycles or five strollers.

The new trains from the St.GallenBodenseeArea manufacturer will operate in the most frequented lines of the suburbs of the capital between Budapest-Vác-Szob und Budapest-Cegléd-Szolnok. They can reach a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour on the country's modernized railways lines.
