Bühler bringing innovators to the CUBIC
Uzwil SG – The Bühler Group has opened its CUBIC innovation campus. The new building at the headquarters can accommodate up to 300 developers, engineers, designers and operators. The technology group has invested 50 million Swiss francs in the campus.
Bühler is bringing its innovators together under one roof. The process engineering company from the St.GallenBodenseeArea writes in a press release that, after a construction period of 20 months, the CUBIC innovation campus officially opened on Tuesday. The campus is integrated into the site in Uzwil as the bridge that links the development, engineering and design teams with the modernized Application Centers and the factory. “The CUBIC campus will become the epicenter of our collaborative ecosystem,” said Bühler’s CTO Ian Roberts in the press release. “It embodies our innovation spirit and culture, where we will inspire, discuss, understand and derive actions that will support us as an industry.”
The campus encompasses eight modernized Application Centers in which the ideas of customers and prototypes are tested and refined. They include the Pasta Application Center, a Battery Lab, a Bakery Innovation Center and the Coffee Application Center.
The building is in itself a model of sustainability and innovation. Its glass facade was coated using equipment from the subsidiary Bühler Leybold Optics. Thanks to the smart electrochromic facade, the building uses 15 percent less energy than comparable structures of its size. Bühler has even slashed energy consumption for heating and air-conditioning by half.
Bühler invested 50 million francs in the campus. “This is our contribution to transforming the urgent global challenges of our time into solid business solutions together with customers, partners, academia, and start-ups,” commented Stefan Scheiber, CEO of the Bühler Group. Spending on research and development is also high at Bühler. In 2018, this amounted to 145 million francs or 4.4 percent of sales.
