SGBA investment: SCHOTT increases St.Gallen production capacity by half

Good news for the St.GallenBodenseeArea (SGBA) in early autumn: SCHOTT will go ahead with an additional multimillion Euro investment in its Swiss competence center to expand production of refillable polymer syringes at its location in the city of St.Gallen. Head-quartered in Germany, the global pharma packaging specialist is allocating an amount in the double digit million range to boost existing capacity by 50%. Following steady output growth in recent years, the additional production lines are intended to further accelerate the pace at SCHOTTs syringe competence center. In the SGBA, SCHOTT handles manufacturing and distribution of glass as well as polymer syringes for clients in the pharma industry.

"We’ll install the new lines in 2019 and begin operations in early 2020", says Mario Haas, Director Polymer Solutions with SCHOTT Pharmaceutical Systems. According to Haas, demand for high-quality polymer syringes has spiked in recent years, facilitated by a broad range of applications for Cyclo-Olefin-Copolimere syringes. Driving this trend were existing markets such as emergency pharmaceuticals, infusion therapy and highly viscous medications because they all require SCHOTT’s light-weight COC syringes and their flexible designs.

SCHOTT has more than 15 years of outstanding expertise in the production of polymer syringes in up-to-date production facilities. The fully automated technology all but guarantees that every step of the manufacturing process, from injection molding to the final, packaged product, is performed without human interaction. According to Haas, the conditions for fully automated production lines that are able to answer the highest quality requirements are absolutely ideal at SCHOTT’s St.Gallen location: "In the St.GallenBodenseeArea we find the qualified staff, important partners and suppliers that we need." Considering this, the company’s commitment and investment into their SGBA location are only a logical consequence.
