Computer scientists from around the world came to Rapperswil

Rapperswil-Jona SG – The HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil hosted the 8th Haskell Hackathon this weekend. Around 500 computer scientists attended, setting a new record.

The HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil once again hosted the annual Haskell Hackathon, which was held as part of ZuriHac (“Zurich Hack”) 2019. Aimed at people who are familiar with the Haskell programming language, both experts and beginners alike, the event brought together students from the HSR, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and other universities, as well as software engineers from the private sector. Participants could attend various activities in Rapperswil between Friday and Sunday, including seminars, demonstrations and lectures.

According to Farhad Mehta, professor of computer sciences at the HSR and co-organizer of ZuriHac, the Haskell programming language was not born from the efforts of individuals alone, but has instead been built up systematically and on mathematical foundations. One of Haskell’s main designers, Simon Peyton Jones, gave the keynote speech at this year’s event.

ZuriHac – the biggest Haskell symposium in the world – is growing in importance as industry leaders such as Google work more and more with Haskell.
